Here We Go…

Usually, it gets to the end of the month and I become frantic and anxious to find the work I need to get me through the next month. Work was steady until mid February when I was in the middle of moving into a new house in downtown Orlando. I wasn’t worried too much but little did I know the amount of work and running around I was about to be doing.

In February, I photographed Manchester Orchestra for the cover of Alternative Press. The issue comes out April 6th in bookstores and what-have-you. I was asked to travel up to Atlanta, GA to shoot the band. Of course, I was willing to go wherever and made the trip up there with my good friend James Lano. We stayed with another friend of ours and fellow photographer, Keaton Andrew. He and his roommates were generous enough to let us crash on their couch.

I was very excited to work with MO. Back in 2008, I walked into a Say Anything show at the House of Blues here in Orlando and they were the opener. I listened to “I’m like a Virgin Losing a Child” for a while and started shifting into different music. None-the-less, I remained a fan. It took a while for the ball to get rolling with them, or so I felt. Out of no where, I get asked to shoot them for the cover. Needless to say, I was shocked yet excited. You can see that below:

Throughout the past couple of months, I’ve been working on various shoots, images, and my very first first workshop. The seminar will be held in Chicopee, Massachusetts. I will be teaching side by side with Jeremy Saffer, a well established music photographer and all around good dude. If you’re interested, we will be informing our attendees about everything from the business to making a great photograph. I’m extremely excited and really looking forward to meeting other aspiring photographers. For more info you can visit - www.jeremysaffer.com/workshop Our spots are limited, so grab a ticket while you can!

The month of April is quite a busy month. Aside from the workshop, I will also be speaking at LAUNCH Music Conference in Lancaster, PA (April 15th-17th) on one of the industry professional panels. I’m looking forward to answering questions and providing insight on what being a music photographer in the industry is really about. I’m honored to be speaking alongside many other industry “top-dogs”. If you want to know about the music industry, I suggest you attend!

For those who have kept up on what I’ve been doing with The Undesigned then you may have already seen the video we did regarding Oceana’s newest EP - “Clean Head”. We met up with the guys in St. Pete and talked it out. Check out the blog post including the video on our website - www.theundesigned.com/cleanhead The Undesigned will have a lot of new content to release within the next month including a handful of videos/music videos and other inspiring endeavors. Definitely stay tuned.

On another note, I’m sure a lot of you are aware my website (www.gageyoung.com) is currently down and has been for the past 3 months. I’ve been having the most difficult time switching from BluDomain to GoDaddy for hosting. Somewhere in this ridiculousness, the urgency has been tossed aside, which is unfortunate for me, myself, and I. Hopefully within the next couple weeks, I will finally have it up and running again. For now, keep checking back on my blog and flickr

Until next time, enjoy!
