Oceana in the Studio with Matt Goldman
I had no idea where I would end up when I left for Tallahassee last Saturday. I originally planned on photographing Mayday Parade for Glamour Kills but those plans would soon evolve. No blame to GK or UPS, but the package containing the necessary clothing didn not arrive and the band was scheduled to leave the following Monday for the first show of the Take Action Tour in Atlanta, GA. Coincidentally, I had planned on being in Atlanta for the recording of Oceana’s new EP with Matt Goldman. So, I agreed to go ahead and take care of the shoot up there. Come to find out, the package wasn’t intercepted in time (or something) and didn’t make its way over to Atlanta. So, I get a call seeing what I can do. After slight negotiations, I commit to doing the shoot in Nashville, which is only about 4 hours away from Atlanta. The drive was quite nice, in fact. The view when entering Tennessee is gorgeous, unfortunately there is no room to pull off and photograph due to the incline you must drive down but that is still entertaining in itself. Thankfully, the shoot in Nashville went through without problem and I was able to drive myself back to the studio in Atlanta where I planned on staying. I’m pretty sure the ad is for a two-page in Alternative Press but we’ll see what kind of usage comes of it!
So the week I spent in Atlanta was awesome. Oceana recorded with Matt Goldman (Third Day, Underoath, As Cities Burn and much more) at Glow in the Dark Studios. The place was really amazing and was located right outside of downtown so the city was at our fingertips. Fortunately, most of their free time was spent on the EP and we figured since most of the clubs around us were strip clubs, it just wasn’t worth it haha. So, we stayed fairly nestled in the studio and they got a bunch of work done. They had a three week notice to write all of the material before they had to be up there recording it. Needless to say, the rush was good and it helped produce amazing sounds. Keep an ear open and an eye out for more info regarding the release of this EP. Anyway, I decided to go ahead and throw a bunch of the photographs on here. Do enjoy and I’ll have more content regarding the Mayday Parade photographs, some medium format photographs, and other announcements I have yet to make!
