A Sunday in Sanford

Sunday could not have been a better day for a walk. I had a handful of errands to run in Sanford but also had plans with James Lano to scope out a few locations for a couple shoots this week. So half of my day was spent driving, which I have no problem with. In the past two years I have racked up more than enough miles but its all worth it.

There is a cypress tree located in Longwood that has the largest circumference out of any other cypress in the United States.  My first attempt at finding the tree failed. I figured I would try again and actually and find it this time. Luckily, James is familiar with the area and took me right to it.

When we got there, this man and his Volkswagon Van were the first things that caught my eye. I love these vans and the colors and look of this one was intriguing. James and I parked a few spaces away from him and walked down a trail to find this cypress tree I had been anxious to see. Unfortunately, there were two barriers and the tree wasn’t that large. I guess I need to go somewhere else to be a little more shocked. Needless to say, its neat but we turned around and walked back to the parking lot. When we got there, this man was looking up into the trees in front of his car. I approached him with my Mamiya and asked him if he mind me taking a photo or two of him and his VW. Immediately he was interested and agreed. We sparked up conversation and he basically told us his life story. The van has been in his possession for over 30 years and has spent the past 20 years living in California pursuing happiness. His name is Garry Hull. If you go to http://homesweetvolkswagonvan.blogspot.com/ - you will be able to read all about him. The above photo I took with a Mark II but took another similar one with my Mamiya. (Same with the below photo)

Unfortunately, the damages to his van were fairly recent and obviously bad. I asked him what had happened and he told me how a girl tried to pass him during a merge and clipped the corner because she was texting and not paying attention. He’s not sure when he can get it fixed.

James suggested we roll over to the Gemini Springs walking trail. We got out and headed towards the water. Its easily one of the most peaceful places I have ever been. I snapped a photo of james with his camera.

I can’t remember this guys name because I don’t think I heard him say it. Regardless, he was just out for a walk as well. He looked friendly so I asked if he minded me making a photograph or two of him. His cane was badass.

I still have so many more things to post that I can’t post yet. I’m really excited about a few things that have fallen into place already and are just waiting to complete. Hopefully this year will continue to go well.

Until I can throw a few more images up online that I really favor, I will continue to post whatever I can. Enjoy!
